Don\u2019t be fooled \u2014 it\u2019s not a moving seaweed, but a decorator crab!<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These fascinating creatures are known for camouflaging themselves with tiny pieces of algae and animals such as anemones, sponges, and bryozoans. This camouflage serves both as a defence mechanism against predators and as a way to blend into their environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The decorator crab is covered with tiny, hooked, Velcro-like bristles called <\/span>setae<\/span><\/i>, to which it attaches algae and small animals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Decorator crabs are a diverse group of species which belong to the \u2018spider crab\u2019 family, <\/span>Majidae, including the largest crab in the world, the Giant Japanese Spider Crab, with a leg span of over 2 metres.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
